Diagnosing a CV axle shaft
- torn rubber boot
- clicking while turning determines the side needs replacement
ACURA INTEGRA CV AXLE SHAFT REPLACEMENT
TOOLS:
- Ratchet or impact gun
- Pry bars
- 17 sockets, wrench
- Pliers
- 32mm axle socket
- Hammer
- Torque wrench (if u have one) if not just go FT - fucking tight
STEP 1 OLD AXLE SHAFT REMOVAL
- Remove wheels
- 19mm
STEP 2
- Remove axle nut
- undo the nut by knocking off the part thats been dented, its to prevent it by coming off the shaft
STEP 3
- Undo the ball joint nut, grab a pliers to remove the cotter pin 17mm
- Undo strut fork-to-control arms nut and bolt 17mm
- Use a pry bar to lift the spindle off the control arm
STEP 4
- Move the spindle out of the way
- Now, remove the axle shaft
- Start from the transmission side
- Then, remove the axle shaft from the spindle. Its okay for the spindle to be pushed out just be careful of any lines.
STEP 5 INSTALL
- Make sure you have the right parts
- You might think the new one are a bit shorter, but turn your old axle shaft up and push it down to have it compressed
- Then double check your splines if its correct
- Now if everything is right lets get ready for the install!
PART 6
- Slide in your new axle shaft to the transmission first make sure you go underneath the strut fork
- tips on putting it in the transmission grab a grease to keep the c clip from moving around just to help centre it
- Once, It catches in the spline give it a big push to fully have it in.
- Insert the other side of the axle to the spindle, and make sure it catches in the spline
- you can still move it around, so put back the ball joint stud and the strut fork into the control arms. Just have it hand tight
- Once, everything is full seated you can start tightening the ball joint nut and strut fork nut and bolt
- Tips - always tighten the nut and have your wrench on the bolt in that way you don’t lose torque
Torque specifications
- ball joint nut (33-46) ft-lb
- strut fork nut (47) ft-lb
STEP 7
- Tighten up your axle it will spin as you tighten
- So, have your wheels on pop out the centre cap and torque it
Torque specification
- Axle nut (134) ft-lb
Final Step
- Make sure to lock the nut
- Double check your work and get ready to test drive your Integra
