Fix new brake squeak 1996 heritage softail classic
I installed new brake pads and put the disk brake quiet on the back of the pads and they squeaked intermittently. I was told, if I put the goop on all of the areas where the pads touch metal it will stop the squeak.
Here's a list of tools and materials I used to fix the squeak.
shorty Philips screwdriver
3/8 ratchet
short extension
t-45 torx socket
vice grips
flat blade screwdriver
grease
disc brake quiet
first thing, remove the saddle bag. Mine has 3 screws
Remove the bolts that hold the brake caliper. I used a torx socket and vise grips for the bottom bolt so I didn't have to remove the exhaust.
The caliper will just slide off and I let it carefully sit on the exhaust pipe.
Next pop off the brake pads. You may need to use the flat blade to pry a bit. I just used my hands.
Apply the brake quiet to all surfaces where metal will contact metal.
Let this set up for about 20 minutes and then re install the brake pads and spring retaining clip.
Next use the c clamp to depress the caliper piston before sliding it over the brake pads.
Grease the bolts and reinstall and crank em tight. A torque wrench could be used but I don't find it necessary. Just good and tight works.
Pump the brake pedal a few times to re-set the caliper piston. That's it.
Test ride was successful. No more squeak.
