Hello again boys and girls, this guide is here to show you how to remove the wiper transmission (and motor) from a 2008 Chev Malibu! If your wipers don't work/wipe off your window, you could be in need of a new wiper transmission or motor.

Estimated Time:

About 30-45 minutes

Tools Required ( if applicable )

  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • 10mm 3/8th socket
  • 15mm 3/8th socket
  • 3/8th ratchet

Step 1:

Pop the covers off of the nuts holding your wiper arms on.

Unbolt the 15mm nut from the wiper trans, and remove the wiper arms. As you can see in the photo, the studs are tapered and have teeth. You need to rock the arms back and forth to free them up, and then they'll come off. They DO make tools for this, but you can normally get away with just rocking the arm to remove it.

Step 2:

Remove the taps and retaining clips holding the wiper cowl on. There are these metal clips and plastic push pin tabs holding it on.

Gently remove the cowl from the car. It unfortunately is a one piece design, so it takes a little bit of prying and maneuvering to remove it.

Step 3:

Unbolt the 3 10mm bolts holding the wiper assembly in. Unplug the motor as well.

Remove the wiper assembly. It tilts up and wiggles out, bit of a tight space they've installed it into but there is enough room once you twist it the right way. Removal done! Happy Wrenching!
