Replace shocks 2015 Chevy Duramax 3500HD LTZ
Bilstein 5100 Front and Rear
Tools needed:
- 13/16” socket and open ended wrench
- 3/4” wrench
- penatrating oil
- floor jack
Spray the bolts with your favourite weasel piss. Remove old shock. Replace with new shock. (The rear ones compress easy enough to not need the Jack)
Repeat on other side.
Remove front shocks. The top bolts are 3/4”
and the bottom are 13/16”
save and reuse the spacer bushings if the new set doesn’t include them. ( mine didn’t ) see pic.
Bolt the top of the shock first. Then jack up the front of the truck until the bottom holes line up. You may be able to compress by hand but I couldn’t, so this works well. (5100’s are stiff)
This project if I’m not mistaken is a two hour “book” job. Takes me about 45 mins in the driveway.
Torq specs = just tighten till snug and caller done. With the wrenches listed it’s pretty hard to over tighten.
