Tips on replacing brakes

Replacing disc brakes: pads, rotors & calipers



Estimated Time: About 3 hours for two wheels plus shopping time (2.5 hours for work on the truck , 10-15 min to get tools/set-up, 10 min to remove/replace the tires, about 10-15 min to clean up). Shopping time varies.



Tools Required :Tips on replacing brakes-fecb #1-


  • set of jack stands
  • hydraulic lift or floor jack
  • wheel chocks or big block of wood
  • impact drill
  • socket wrenches with different sizes of ratchets
  • screw driver
  • wrench
  • breaker bar to take wheel lug nuts off
  • lug nut key or correct socket for your lug nuts
  • old bucket or Tupperware container to catch the brake fluid
  • rag
  • (optional) thin Nitrile gloves
  • cardboard or mat to put underneath
  • brake cleaner
  • grease

Tip #1: Pick good weather and a good location just in case you find something else that needs repairs or can’t finish in time


Tip#2: Don’t over tighten the bolts or else the caliper will crack or break!
