2003 to 2007 duramax engine thermostat change

In this how-to, I'll walk you through the steps necessary to change duramax engine thermostat.

This how-to assumes you have already secured the truck by disconecting both battery.


Remember, when you replace coolant parts, always let cool the car/truck and open radiator cap to let pressure goes out


TOOLS/MATERIALS REQUIRED:

-12mm 3/8drive short socket

-3/8 impact gun (optional)

-3/8 box joint

-10 inch long 3/8 extension bar


ESTIMATED TIME ON COOLED TRUCK :

-30minutes


STEP 1

Locate thermostat housing ( between oil filler neck and a/c compressor

2003 to 2007 duramax 
engine thermostat change-292f #1-


STEP 2

Open the drain valve at the bottom of the rad to drain about 1 gallon


STEP 3

Disconect the electronic plug behind a/c compressor 2003 to 2007 duramax 
engine thermostat change-292f #2-

STEP 4

Remove connectors bracket (2 bolts ) to reach the hidden bolt of the upper rad hose bracket

Remove the 2 bolts of the rad hose braket



STEP 5

Remove 4 bolts on top of thermostat housing

Lift housing and change both thermostat

85°c near fan and 82°c rear ( closer to coil dash)

be careful to remove older rubber gasket


STEP 6

Redo all step from 5 to 1

Refill coolant

Check for leaks
