How to make a custom hood cowl
Step 1
remove your hood from you vehicle
this is usually done by 4 bolts on the underside of the hood
step 2
I went onto summit.com and ordered a oversized hood cowl, that I will be able to cut down to fit
Step 3
clean your hood with some soapy water and give it a quick sand
Step 4
put your oversized cowl on your hood and measure it out to see how much you will need to cut off, this step you will also want to center out your cowl and trace it onto the hood
Step 5
apply a tape line to your cowl where your gunna want to cut it ~ make sure it’s straight!
step 6
cut out your air flow hole or square- the size and shape is all up to you- I have a v8 under the hood of my Jeep so I need all the room I can get!
Step 7
sand/grind down to bare metal on the hood and the cowl we will be starting to tack weld around it
Step 8
clamp down the cowl and start applying tak welds around the perimeter of the cowl in equal fragments
Step 9
keep going around and around welding until the whole cowl is welded on to your hood
Step 10
grinding/sanding down the welds to a flush, and applying filler/bondo
Step 11
before applying bondo you are going to want to wipe down the whole hood and cowl with a cleaning solvent to get rid of any oils or greases
step 12
apply bondo around the hood cowl- remember the more you apply the more you have to sand off!
Step 13
clean again after everything you do!
after you have sanded the bondo to your liking you can wipe it down and spray it with primer paint- I painted and wet sanded a few times
Step 14
paint to your chosen colour! And enjoy!
Thanks hope this helped you!
