T1/7L VW Touareg Auto trans oil change
Doing a quick how to on changing the transmission oil in the early T1/7L VW Touaregs from 04-08 with 09D transmissions. Link provided to Youtube at the bottom if you prefer videos.
Tools:
Regular allen set (will need 17mm allen for fill tube)
Metric socket set
Fluid transfer pump
Drain pan and kitty litter/oil dry
Scan tool to read trans temp
Consumables:
Brake clean and paper towel
9L of oil
Gasket/drain and fill o-rings
Oil filter
(multiple online retailers sell a kit including everything you need)
Step1:
Park the car somewhere where you can work on it comfortably and while its running
Step 2:
Drain the oil out of the smaller hole in the pan, it'll hold about 6-7L
Step 3:
Remove bolts and remove the pan, be careful as there will be some remaining oil in there
Step 4:
Unbolt the oil filter and remove
Step 5:
Clean out the remaining oil, clean the magnets off and clean mating surfaces. Use paper towels or lint free rags as you don't want lint clogging your new filter
Step 6:
Install the spacers in the new gasket if not pre-installed
Step 7:
Re-install filter and pan
Step 8:
Fill through fill hole (RH rear corner of pan). Once it starts to spit out, start up and move through Forward/reverse and back to park, fill until it spits out again then install the plug. This fluid pump came with a hard line to bend at a 90 to get the oil into the pan instead of spitting right back out (step 5 shows a picture of the fill tube)
Step 9:
Take it out for a drive until transmission oil is at 35C (I got it a little to hot)
Step 10:
Check through the fill hole again when running and top up as needed. You'll need the better part of the 9L between filling and spilling
